Sales are grouped using WhiskyPricer’s normalised bottle names and catalogue aliases.
Matching hammer results are grouped by auction house and a clearly stated period.
Sample size, recency and price spread are considered before house-level figures are useful.

What the figures represent
WhiskyPricer records historical hammer prices: the winning bid when a lot closes. Hammer prices normally exclude buyer’s premium, delivery and other charges. They are also different from retail prices, which are shop asking prices rather than completed auction sales.
Detailed comparisons may include the number of matched sales, median hammer price, recent hammer price and historical range. An average is only useful when the sample is large and consistent enough to avoid a small number of unusual lots distorting the result.

What does hammer price mean?
The hammer price is the winning bid when the auction closes. It normally excludes buyer fees, delivery and other charges, so it is different from the total amount a buyer pays.
What information is available publicly?
Public pages explain the methodology and show a limited bottle-level hammer-price sample. Detailed house-by-house figures, auction venues and lot links remain part of the membership service.
Why are some bottles not compared?
A useful comparison needs correctly matched sales from more than one auction house. Sparse, mixed or uncertain records should not be presented as a reliable house comparison.
Are auction prices the same as retail prices?
No. Retail prices are shop asking prices. Auction hammer prices are completed secondary-market bids and do not normally include buyer fees.
Historical results are market evidence, not a guarantee of a future sale price. Bottle condition, packaging, fill level, auction fees and timing can all affect the final outcome.
